The aim of the research is to contribute to the current debate on the future of the European integration by examination of the relatively new form of territorial cooperation- macro-regional strategies (MRS).
The success of this model depends much on the desire of the Member states and regions to interact and develop long-term arrangements. Macro-regions, not becoming a new institutional body between the EU and the Member States, operate as a cooperation tool between regions, Member States and the EU, enabling regions to design, implement and manage the EU regional policies.
Related project at the institute is “European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino” as well as the extensive research focus on cross-border cooperation.
