Ancient DNA Lab

Laboratory for molecular studies on ancient human remains

The analysis of ancient DNA unites the diverse disciplines of archaeology, physical anthropology and molecular biology. Genomic analysis of ancient finds offers the possibility to combine population genetics with history and also investigate the onset and development of ancient diseases. Due to the degraded nature of ancient DNA, the ancient DNA laboratory at EURAC provides tailored approaches to sample treatment, DNA extraction and its analysis. Sample processing, specialized extraction and library preparation of DNA for high throughput sequencing are performed in a dedicated clean room for ancient DNA. To avoid cross-contamination, post-PCR molecular analyses and histology are carried out in a separate laboratory.
