Openness Beyond Access

Eurac Research is delighted to offer an online seminar and panel discussion for Open Access week 2021. This is the yearly appointment to reflect on scholarly communications and learn more about what is happening in and around open access. This year's event will feature two special guests who join us via zoom from Amsterdam and Heidelberg:

  • Helena Cousijn from DataCite on persistent identifiers and data sharing

  • Bernd Pulverer from EMBO on open peer review

Presentations will be followed by a Q&A with the audience and a panel discussion with Maria Bellantone and Liise Lehtsalu of Eurac Research.

Speakers bios

Dr Helena Cousijn is Director of Community Engagement at DataCite, a global non-profit organization that provides persistent identifiers (DOIs) for research outputs. Helena is responsible for all DataCite's membership and community activities. She's committed to DataCite's mission of enabling sharing and reuse and passionate about open science. Before joining DataCite, Helena worked as Senior Product Manager for Research Data Management Solutions at Elsevier. She holds a DPhil in Neuroscience from the University of Oxford.

Dr Bernd Pulverer is Chief Editor of EMBO Reports and Head of scientific Publications at EMBO Press. Undergraduate: Cambridge University, PhD: Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, London 1992; Postdoctoral research: Ontario Cancer Institute, Toronto, Fred Hutchinson Cancer research Center, Seattle & University of Innsbruck. Molecular biologist specializing in signal transduction, transcriptional regulation, proteolysis, cancer. From 1999 Senior Editor Nature, from 2002-2009 Chief Editor Nature Cell Biology. From 2009 Head, EMBO Press and 2009-2021 Chief Editor, The EMBO Journal. From 2021 Chief Editor EMBO Reports. Advisory boards: bioRxiv, DORA, RORI, ASM, Review Commons, QUEST, CMMC.
