Short bio

Mariapina Castelli, PhD, is the group leader of the Biosphere and Hydrosphere Research Group at the Institute for Earth Observation of Eurac Research. With a background in environmental engineering, her research focuses on the interactions between the water cycle, vegetation, climate, and human activities in mountainous regions. She develops methods for integrating remote sensing data into water and energy balance models to support agricultural and water resource management, addressing the challenges of topographic complexity and land-cover heterogeneity. Mariapina Castelli acquires and manages national and international projects and leads a diverse research team with varied expertise, nationalities, and experience levels.

What we do

Our research addresses the greatest challenges facing us in the future: people need health, energy, well-functioning political and social systems and an intact environment. These are complex questions, and we are seeking the answers in the interaction between many different disciplines. [About us](/en/about-us-eurac-research)
