GLOMOS at UNCCD-COP 16: Addressing Land Degradation
GLOMOS took part to the UNCCD-COP 16 held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with two significant side events, sparking dialogue among global experts on innovative strategies to tackle land degradation and promote sustainable practices.
At the recently concluded UNCCD-COP 16 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, GLOMOS took part by organizing two dynamic side events. These sessions brought together global experts and stakeholders to explore innovative strategies for combating land degradation and promoting sustainable land use practices.
A standout contributor to these events was Dr. Navneet Kumar, Senior Research Associate at GLOMOS. Dr. Kumar’s expertise and leadership were pivotal in shaping meaningful discussions, facilitating collaboration, and presenting actionable solutions for some of the most pressing environmental challenges.
Highlighting the Events
On 4 December, the session titled Innovative Techniques for Mapping and Monitoring Degraded Land Using Earth Observation was held at the Science Oasis in the Green Zone. Organized and moderated by Dr. Kumar, this session delved into the transformative role of earth observation technologies in identifying and addressing degraded landscapes.
The following day, 5 December, attention turned to Greening Degraded Landscapes: Sustainable Afforestation in Degraded Croplands, hosted in the Blue Zone. Dr. Kumar not only organized and moderated this impactful session but also delivered a presentation titled Developing Afforestation Planning Considering Water Resources in the Degraded Croplands. His talk emphasized the critical need for water resource planning in ensuring the success of afforestation efforts in fragile ecosystems.
A Vision for a Resilient Future
These events underscored GLOMOS’s unwavering commitment to finding practical and innovative solutions for environmental challenges, from cutting-edge technologies to sustainable resource management practices.
