The ESA EO Exploitation Platform Common Architecture (EOEPCA) project has defined a blueprint architecture for EO Exploitation platforms in distributed computing environments based on open source software. With the evolution of the framework this follow-up project aims now to further modularize and standardize the software into modular building blocks compatible in a common framework describing all possible components needed for setting up an Earth Observation Exploitation Platform. All software components are defined in complete and independent containerized units that can be deployed independently or as part of a complete platform with according configuration. The interface between and with the components are following state of the art standards and industry best practices as defined by OGC and other relevant standardization bodies.

The project lead by Terradue is organized into providing input to each of the different Building Blocks as independent work packages. Our consortium is leading the building blocks of Data Processing and Processing Federation and is contributing to the Building Block on GeoDataCube Access. Eurac in particular is leading the activities on GeoDataCubes, with a special focus co-designing and implementing the corresponding OGC standard. And the integration of best practices defining the description of meta data following a new paradigm of how to implement STAC collections in STAC catalogues to be fully self-descriptive allowing for standardized processing operations such as load_stac in openEO to automatically load data from STAC catalogues following these new best practices.

Eurac is contributing to the Processing Data Cube by helping with the development of the openEO based processing engine and especially the integration with xArray and Dask based execution environments, that are provided by the lead partner Terradue.

Eurac is further contributing in the federation building block to the integration of the two main branches of data processing engines based on OGC application packages and OGC API processes on the one hand side and openEO on the other side. This integration is also strongly supporting the implementation of GeoDataCubes processing functionality.
