Safeguarding Mountain Social-Ecological Systems: A Global Challenge - Facing emerging risks, adapting to changing environments and building transformative resilience in mountain regions worldwide

GLOMOS launched a book compilation initiative with Elsevier for an edited volume to be published at the end of 2021 as part of Elsevier’s Hazards and Disasters Series.

The book is titled: Safeguarding Mountain Social-Ecological Systems - A Global Challenge: Facing emerging risks, adapting to changing environments, and building transformative resilience in mountain regions worldwide.

Containing contributions from international mountain researchers, colleagues from the UN system, and regional stakeholders, this publication aims at providing an overview of the state-of-the-art research in mountain regions worldwide and includes cutting-edge methodologies and technologies, the identification of existing challenges, and methods to enhance understanding of the diversity of mountain contexts in different geographic regions.

This book underlines existing and potential synergies and results of mountain research work in accordance with the United Nations international frameworks, with a particular focus on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, but also mentioning the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Paris Agreement, the New Urban Agenda and the Agenda for Land Degradation Neutrality. In doing so, it aims at facilitating greater recognition of mountain issues within international frameworks, also in direct comparison with coastal areas or mega-cities which usually receive stronger attention at the international level.
