Das Biodiversitätsmonitoring Südtirol ist eine laufende Erhebung unseres Naturinventars. Das Monitoring dient nicht nur der Grundlagenforschung, sondern soll auch die wissenschaftliche Grundlage für politische Entscheidungen zur Raumplanung, Landwirtschaft und zum Naturschutz liefern. Es erfasst sensible Artengruppen, die auf Klima- und Landnutzungsänderungen reagieren. Neben einzelnen taxonomischen Gruppen werden auch die Landschaft und die Lebensräume der umliegenden Gebiete erfasst.

All diese Informationen werden in 320 über Südtirol (7400 km2) verteilten Flächen erhoben. Diese umfassen einen großen Teil unserer Lebensraumvielfalt. Das Monitoring untersucht sowohl vom Menschen geschaffene und bewirtschaftete Lebensräume als auch naturnahe Lebensräume wie Wälder, Feuchtgebiete und alpine Standorte.

Das Biodiversitätsmonitoring wird unter der Leitung von Eurac Research und in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Naturmuseum Südtirol und der Abteilung Natur, Landschaft und Raumentwicklung, sowie der Abteilung Landwirtschaft der Autonomen Provinz Bozen-Südtirol durchgeführt.
