The CHRIS-2D project promotes the development of innovative health solutions based on the analysis of big data and biological samples from the from the South Tyrolean population. The Institute of Biomedicine of Eurac Research has the largest population-based molecular study in Italy: the Cooperative Health study in Italy: the Cooperative Health Research In South Tyrol (CHRIS) study, which collected more than one million biological samples and epidemiological, molecular and genetic data from 13,393 adults in the Vinschgau Valley. In addition to serving scientific research, the CHRIS study cooperates companies in the molecular diagnostics, food and telemedicine sectors, demonstrating that population studies can become powerful studies can become powerful tools for industrial biotechnological development. CHRIS-2D will involve private and public stakeholders through a DYNAMIC DATA PORTAL linked to the database and biobank and managed by the CHRIS study governance system. The portal will facilitate visibility and interaction with users, who will be able to explore the data and devise innovative R&D projects. The iterative updating of the portal with new data generated by each approved project will ensure continuous expansion and uniqueness of the resource, attracting new local and international investors. Based on the Smart Specialisation Strategy, CHRIS-2D will raise the bar for biomedical research in South Tyrol and will be a distinctive feature of the Province in the field of health and technology.
