South African Mountain Conference 2022

    Yesterday, 14th March, marked the start of the South African Mountain Conference (SAMC 2022) which is planned until 17th March. Taking place in the region of the majestic Maloti-Drakensberg mountains of South Africa-Lesotho,the conference has been co-organised by GLOMOS and the African Mountain Research Foundation (AMRF), in association with the Afromontane Research Unit (ARU – University of the Free State) and it focuses on mountains of the southern African region – i.e. Angola, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo [southern mountains], Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, La Réunion, South Africa, southern Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. SAMC2022 is intentionally multi-disciplinary and seeks to bring together key stakeholders in the scientific, policy, practitioner, and livelihoods sectors, leading to stronger cooperation for mountains, providing a strong science-policy-industry interface.     Researchers from South African Environment Observation Network (SAEON) are showing GLOMOS staff the instruments at their LTSER site (meteorological monitoring instruments) at Cathedral Peak, South Africa. GLOMOS will be collaborating with SAEON in the establishment of a new LTSER site spanning South Africa and neighbouring Lesotho.
