The Alpine Space region faces challenges in transitioning to sustainable heating and cooling (H&C) systems. These include lagging renewable energy source (RES) integration, limited heat pump adoption, and insufficient policy and financing frameworks.
ALPHA, a transnational project, aims to address these challenges by coordinating and accelerating the adoption of 5th-Generation District Heating and Cooling (5GDHC) solutions. It will develop a standardized planning approach, promote RES and heat pump integration, strengthen policy and financing mechanisms, and facilitate knowledge sharing among stakeholders.
ALPHA expected outcomes are
- Improved decarbonization governance in Alpine H&C.
- Increased uptake of RES and heat pumps in over 500,000 buildings.
- Optimized H&C, energy, and urban plans to drive investments in 5GDHC solutions.
- Reduced greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
- Enhanced the Alpine Space region's position as a clean energy hub.
ALPHA's approach involves setting up transnational cooperation mechanisms, developing frameworks and tools, and providing resources to support stakeholders at all levels. By addressing the existing barriers and facilitating collaborative planning, piloting, and replication, ALPHA will contribute to a more sustainable and low-carbon H&C sector in the Alpine Space region.
