Collaboration with the European University of Armenia and the International Business School
We joined forces with the European University of Armenia (EUA) and the International Business School (IBS) for a collaboration during the 2022-23 academic year which also included lectures on “Tourism and Hotel Management” given by our researchers.
Eurac Research has been involved with the European University of Armenia (EUA) since its foundation in 2001, with Director Stephan Ortner serving on its board. However, the 2022/23 cooperation agreement, which encompasses teaching activities and workshops, has elevated the partnership on a new level. The 2022-23 certification program comprised 86 online teaching hours and was structured in three modules from December 2022 to April 2023.
The program centered on strategic tourism and destination management, sustainability and transformation in tourism as well as current issues in destination development. The lectures placed a special focus on applied research and the presentation of case studies to illustrate the subject in a more tangible way. They were given by the researchers at the Center for Advanced Studies, including Harald Pechlaner, Greta Erschbamer, Felix Windegger, Anna Scuttari, Maximilian Walder and Elisa Piras, who also brought different interdisciplinary aspects to the topic. Other participating Eurac Research institutes were: the Center for Global Mountain Safeguard Research - GLOMOS (Paola Fontanella, Stefan Schneiderbauer), the Institute for Regional Development (Christian Hoffmann, Philipp Corradini, Filippo Favilli, Bradley Loewen, Federica Maino, Cristina Dalla Torre, Andrea Omizzolo, Isidoro De Bortoli, Alberto Dianin, Thomas Streifeneder), the Center for Autonomy Experience (Josef Prackwieser, Jakob Volgger), the Eurac Research Meeting Management (Pier Paolo Mariotti ) and the Department for Education and Training, with Günther Cologna leading the overall coordination.
Following a year of intensive learning, Harald Pechlaner, Head of the Center for Advanced Studies, and the tourism researcher Greta Erschbamer traveled to Armenia in April to evaluate the students' final presentations. The workshops, organized in Yerewan, addressed two highly topical issues, namely cultural heritage in conflict regions and perceptions of mountain areas in Armenia. The visit also included meetings with local stakeholders and a hiking tour, providing the opportunity to explore Mount Parakatar, Artavan Lake, as well as Lake Sevan and the Haghartsin Monastery.
