Eurac Research at the Clean Energy Industrial Forum 2021
Eurac Research takes part at CEIF´s first high-level meeting to develop recommendations on how to strengthen the industrial basis and the EU value chain for clean energy technologies
The Clean Energy Industrial Forum 2021 (CEIF) was established to identify key issues related to clean energy industry competitiveness and required policy responses. CEIF aims to support the achievement of the EU’s 2030 climate targets by helping accelerate the growth of the sector, innovation, skills and the uptake of smart technologies and services.
The European Commission set up a Clean Energy Industrial Forum (CEIF) in 2018 next to the legislative package Clean Energy for All Europeans, to help the EU industry take advantage of the growth opportunities of and fully play its part in the energy transition. The CEIF was established to create a structured dialogue between the EU clean energy industry and the Commission and identify key issues related to the sector’s competitiveness and required policy responses. The last 3 December took place the first meeting of the new mandate. The meeting was coordinated and opened by Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy and more than 20 European clean energy industry leaders such as the CEO of Enel Green Power, RWE Generation, WackerChemie, H2 Green Steel or participated next to Presidents of leading sector associations.
Present at the meeting was as well our Head of Institute Wolfram Sparber, in his role as Vice President of the European Renewable Energy Research Centres, commenting “The energy transition represents for Europe a major challenge but as well a major opportunity for job creation and economic development. Research, development and Innovation play a key role to profit from this opportunity in the best possible way. Meetings as today allow a direct exchange of opinions between the industry, research and commission allowing to focus on the most urgent issues”.
