Best renovation solutions for EU building stock
In order to efficiently identify the best renovation solutions for specific buildings, expertise and time are required and the results cannot be easily generalized across different buildings. To address this challenge, an accessible tool and database are needed to support decision-making and performance assessment. Within the IWG5 Building Implementation Working Group on Energy Efficiency in Buildings, the researchers have developed a simulation-based database that includes energy consumption data, cost analysis, and environmental impact assessments for renovation packages applied to typical European residential and office buildings.
The creation of this database required an innovative approach that considered multiple parameters. Through parametric simulations with varying values, the database can analyze how different scenarios and conditions impact building performance and energy efficiency improvements. This allows to test different building components, materials, and energy systems across various building archetypes and climate conditions.
Features
- Use of different climate scenarios
- Assessment of buildings under present and projected future climates
- Evaluation of the buildings' resilience and adaptability to changing climates
- Possibility to filter and compare the different solutions
