Grant Opportunities for Global South Participants – 2025 SOS4CC
The Organizing Committee of the Conference on Social Sciences for Climate Change (SOS4CC) has allocated funding for two scholarships to support participants from the Global South and facilitate their participation in SOS4CC. Read below how to apply.
A total of two travel grants will be awarded on a competitive basis, each covering up to €750, for participation in the 2025 SOS4CC Conference. In addition, the Organizing Committee will cover registration fees for the selected scholarship recipients and provide logistical support for their travel.
Applicants need to (i) be affiliated with an academic institution / organization of the Global South or (ii) be a university student working on a master’s or PhD originating from a country in the Global South. Preference will be given to graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and other early career applicants.
To apply for a SOS4CC grant, the following documents should be submitted:
- Completed application form (see download section below): Applicant´s full name, surname, country of origin, copy/photo of identity-card or passport.
- A motivation letter (one-page maximum length) describing how your research aligns with the core themes of the SOS4CC and meaningfully contributes to the conference's objectives. Applicants should provide a brief description of how attending the conference will support their long-term career development.
- A resumed CV (two pages maximum length), including a short list of publications (maximum total of 5 publications).
- A copy of your abstract already submitted to the 2025 SOS4CC Call for Abstracts.
- If needed, a support statement from your supervisor (for PhD candidates only).
Evaluation Criteria
- Abstract – Evaluated based on merit and quality.
- Brief Justification – A clear and compelling explanation of the need for financial support.
- Career stage – Preference will be given to early-career researchers
- Equity and Inclusion – Priority will be given to applicants from historically marginalized communities, including but not limited to those facing social, economic, racial, or geographical barriers (specify further if applicable).
- Collaboration Potential – Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate potential for cross-disciplinary or international collaboration, fostering knowledge exchange and cooperative solutions to climate challenges.
- Application requirements – Only complete applications written in English will be considered.
- Travel requirements and safety protocols: Applicants must ensure they meet Italy's travel requirements and acknowledge that participation requires compliance with Italian government and venue regulations.
Application deadline: 30 April, 2025.
Notification of results: May, 2025.

The SOS4CC Organizing Committee is committed to amplifying diverse voices in the climate conversation. To foster inclusivity, we are offering two scholarships to support participants from the Global South, ensuring their valuable perspectives help shape the dialogue at SOS4CC 2025. When referring to "Global South", we refer to those defined by the United Nations’ Finance Center for South-South Cooperation, but have also included Turkey and Mexico.
