The SMS 2.0 team part of the ECML network of experts in the ARPIDE project

    • Date: 20-21.11.2024
    • Place: European Center for Modern Languages (ECML), Graz

On the 20th and 21st of November, a group of experts from various national and educational contexts met at the European Center for Modern Languages (ECML) in Graz. The aim of the event was to inform the future steps of the project „Using ECML resources to support plurilingual and intercultural education for democratic culture” (ARPIDE). As its title suggests, the project seeks to make the numerous resources stemming from various ECML projects more easily accessible and adaptable for those involved in teacher training, school consultancy, and curriculum development. In this way, the project supports the implementation of plurilingual education for democratic culture, as emphasized by various Council of Europe documents, including the 2022 Recommendation - - CM/Rec(2022)1.

During the event, several tools of the project were discussed, including: 1) a grid based on key descriptors from the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture and the principles of the 2022 Recommendation. This grid will facilitate access to ECML resources and allow for their adaptation to different educational contexts; 2) a checklist for assessing and adapting ECML resources to meet the specific needs of each group of stakeholders.

Promoting plurilingual education for democratic culture is also the aim of the project “One school, many languages” (SMS 2.0) of Eurac Research. The SMS 2.0 team is therefore very pleased to be part of the network, and will continue to contribute to its developments and to the promotion of the tools and resources that will originate from it.
