Students from SSML Carlo Bo visit the Institute for Applied Linguistics
Seven students from the Bachelor's degree program “Language Mediation Sciences” (SSML) Carlo Bo from Florence spent two days getting a first glimpse of the daily work of our translators and terminologists at the Institute for Applied Linguistics.
Why is terminology work so important for the South Tyrolean society? What exactly does a terminologist do and what influence does terminology have on translation processes? What challenges do translators face when simplifying texts or using gender-inclusive language? These and other questions were examined by the students of SSML Carlo Bo together with our experts on January 28 and 29.
However, they not only gained an insight into our work at Eurac Research's Institute for Applied Linguistics, but also visited the Office for Language Affairs (Ufficio di Questioni Linguistiche) and had the opportunity to talk to a terminologist from the Canton of Bern, with whom we’ve been collaborating for years.
This initiative allowed the students to combine course content with practical experience and explore exciting professional fields at first hand.
