The last mile logistics
The e-mobility experts of Eurac Research in collaboration with the municipal administration and Trentino Mobilità, studied and analyzed the reorganisation of the goods transportation in the city center of Trento. The objective was to reduce traffic and pollution related to the delivery of goods in the city center.
The working group interviewed commercial operators and studied the interventions adopted in various Italian (Padua, Vicenza) and European (La Rochelle, France) cities in order to elaborate a solution-package tailored to the needs of the city of Trento. The interventions envisage the construction of several freight collection hubs in the area, and the deliveries from the hubs to the ZTL will be made by electric vehicles at times that best suit the needs of economic operators and citizens living in the centre.
Development
The analysis mentioned above were carried out within the framework of the H2020 Stardust project. The reorganisation of last-mile logistics is one of the interventions that will lead Trento to become a European smart city model. In addition to electric mobility, as part of the Stardust project financed by the European Commission, investments will also be made in ICT systems and energy rehabilitation of buildings.
