Exploring Climate Justice and Intersectionality: Highlights from the ASCEND Workshop

On November 16th 2024, Eurac Research hosted a workshop as part of our Center's project ASCEND, aimed at fostering discussions on the integration of climate justice and intersectionality across various research projects within Eurac Research. Researchers from different institutes and centers participated, sharing their expertise and insights on these critical topics.

The workshop began with input presentations that highlighted the first results of the ASCEND project. These presentations provided the foundation for group discussions, where participants had the opportunity to reflect on their own research and explore how intersectionality could be more strongly integrated into future projects. The collaborative environment allowed for dynamic exchanges, encouraging participants to rethink their approaches to climate justice and how to incorporate diverse perspectives into their work.

As a central theme, the discussions emphasized the importance of considering intersectional identities — such as gender, race, socioeconomic status, and age — when addressing the impacts of climate change. By doing so, researchers aim to ensure that their findings and solutions are inclusive, equitable, and reflective of the real-world complexities communities face.

Stay tuned for more updates on how the ASCEND project and other Eurac Research initiatives are integrating climate justice and intersectionality into future research.
