GeoLog | EGU23 Photo Competition Winners - Raul David Serban

Our Geographer Raul David Serban captured this stunning image of Rainbow Mountain in Gansu, China, and managed to become one of the 3 winners in the #EGU23 Photo Competition.

The colorful layers of sandstone and minerals are the result of the ancient collision between the Eurasian and Indo-Australian tectonic plates.

Raul is an expert on soil warming and permafrost dynamics. He explores thermokarst lakes in various regions, from the Tibetan Plateau to the Alps.

The photo contest is part of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) general assembly, a major event for Earth, planetary and space science research in Europe. We loved his picture and apparently you did as well, thank you for voting!
