Belowground mountaineers: A scientific publication for children and young people
What are mountain soils and who inhabits them? Why do we find many more species in deeper soils and a completely different species composition in higher soils? How can the inhabitants of high altitudes adapt to the conditions prevailing here? And what can each of us do to help the mountain soils? Michael Steinwandter and Julia Seeber from the Institute for Alpine Environment answer these questions with the help of their scientific data in a publication for children and young people. This easy-to-understand paper was created as part of the education project “Frontiers of Young Minds” to communicate the importance of soils and their inhabitants to all age groups in an understandable way. There are many more articles on soil biodiversity to discover on the project website: Frontiers for Young Minds (English)
