Die Projektinitiative konzentriert sich auf die Beantwortung der Fragen: Wie wird an Südtiroler Schulen das Potenzial der Mehrsprachigkeit wahrgenommen und genutzt? Wie kann Schule den monolingualen Habitus überwinden und sinnvoll den Herausforderungen einer plurikulturellen und plurilingualen Gesellschaft begegnen? Aufbauend auf konkreten Bedarfserhebungen und aktuellen Ansätzen der Mehrsprachigkeitsdidaktik werden im Rahmen des Projekts Entscheidungshilfen, Fortbildungen und Materialien für einen angemessenen, sprachbewussten und sprachaufmerksamen Unterricht in Schulklassen mit zunehmender sprachlicher Heterogenität entwickelt, besonders berücksichtigt wird dabei der Kompetenzaufbau von SchülerInnen, deren Erstsprache von der Unterrichtssprache abweicht. Es werden Konzepte zur Stärkung der sprachlichen und interkulturellen Kompetenzen aller SchülerInnen und zur Verbesserung der Chancen auf dem Bildungs- und Arbeitsmarkt ausgearbeitet. Die zentrale Zielsetzung des Projekts ist es, im Bildungssystem Südtirols die Wahrnehmung von Verschiedenheit als eine Bereicherung zu fördern, bei allen Akteuren die Sprachbewusstheit und das Sprachbewusstsein zu stärken und Mehrsprachigkeit als allgemeines Bildungsziel weiter umfassend zu etablieren.
