Discussing Language, Education and Power

A Workshop Day with MeBiK’s Project Advisory Board

On October 14, a team of researchers of the Institute for Applied Linguistics organised a day of discussions and exchange around issues of language and power in education with the Scientific Advisory Board of the project MeBiK. Emiliano Grimaldi, educational sociologist at the Università degli Studi di Napoli, Sari Pietikäinen, sociolinguist at the University of Jyväskylä and Julie A. Panagiotopoulou, educational scientist at the Universität Köln came to Bolzano and engaged with theoretical and methodological topics and questions related to the ethnographic projects MeBiK, KiDiLi and STEMCo. Each an expert in their field, they brought an interdisciplinary perspective to the workshop, which made for stimulating discussions and helped discover new research paths to follow. The picture shows the researchers of the Institute for Applied Linguistics and the advisory board during a postcolonially-inspired tour of Bolzano’s contested monuments that concluded the workshop day.
