Building Integrated Photovoltaics Database
The integration between solar energy systems and building components is very critical in sensitive heritage contexts, especially for the protection of their esthetical appearance and their historical values and the lack of useful spaces. Particularly, Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) are PV panels integrated into the elements of building envelope, combining energy generation with other functions of the building materials, such as or noise protection, thermal insulation, sun shadow, and so on. Nowadays, the dynamism of the market permits to design high compatible products that appear similar to other materials commonly used in architecture. This situation boosts the integration between heritage context and BIPV systems, especially thanks to the use of advanced customization process, low reflecting and special glasses, and innovative low cost treatments.
Development
This database is an integration of the already existing BIPV database developed by Eurac Research within the framework of IEA PVPS Task15 project. It collects case studies and commercial products of BIPV systems applied in historic buildings and landscapes. The activity has been carried out within the framework of the Interreg IT-CH research project BIPV meets history. The database development ist still in progress
- new graphical layout to improve communicative strength
- detailed features of historic buildings and BIPV applications integrated in the landscapes
- innovative BIPV products
- selected BIPV case studies
- interactive geographic map of the case studies, producers and installers
- upload of new contents by external users
